books

in an continued effort to simultaneously make myself more smarter and more interesting, i'm pledging to read more this month. before i get reconnected to the media-filled life that is american society. yep. november 10th-ish, internet, tv and a landline (how retro!), and my descent into ignorance begins anew.

anyhow, here's a sampling of the stuff i've read in the last year or so. any recommendations based on what's written below? classics, non-fiction, new fiction. pretty much anything but sci-fi or fantasy. just can't get my head around it.

cheers!

I like your list. Excellent choice of authors. You pass my literature test. Next the travel test...whenever you're ready;)

you did say "more smarter" on purpose, right? I really hope so. Or maybe you've been watching too much of America's Most Smartest Model?

Yes, I did. I'm glad you know that my improper superlativication (yes, I made that one up) was merely in jest.

and no, I don't watch such drivel. I'm surprised that you do!

I've only seen half of an episode, I swear :) I do enjoy some reality tv, but that's a little low.

today one of the kindergarteners said, "we were being the quietestest!" and I thought of this hehe

Have you read...?
Catcher in the Rye
The Outsiders
Their Eyes were Watching God (this one is set in rural Florida, which I found interesting, although it takes a few chapters to be able to read through the dialect quickly)

It's a shame you don't like fantasy/science fiction because those are some of my favorites. Ira Levin is one of my favorite authors (he wrote Rosemary's Baby) and mostly writes sci fi stuff, but A Kiss Before Dying is a realistic thriller that I really liked.

Don't know if you've read the Da Vinci Code or not. I avoided it for a long time only because everyone was all "OMG DA VINCI CODE!" but it was pretty good when I finally read it.

That's all I can think of right now, but I'll let you know if I come up with anything else :)

I did read Catcher in the Rye recently. I read The Outsiders in middle school, I think it may be in the stack of used books I've recently acquired. I've read all of Dan Brown's novels. Angels & Demons was much better than Da Vinci.

I'll see if I can find Their Eyes Were Watching God. I'm kind of a sucker for rural Florida fiction. The Alachua County library has a pamphlet with a pretty good list of books about Florida. I've read maybe half of them too.
